For first time buyers, knowing that you need a scanner is one thing. Finding the best affordable scanner for your specific need is a different thing. So in this scanner buying guide, we’ll help you to think through and understand the most important factors before clicking that buy button.

Even though the intention is not to bore you with a long bland list of portable scanner reviews, sparing a minute or two on this page will definitely prove helpful for you.

Practically, you don’t have to be moving from one page to another in order to understand the key factors that will make your purchase decision easier. Based on this fact, you are very much likely to save some time in your research process. Why does these things matter you may ask?

Well, here is one fact.

For people that have multiple or peculiar use cases in mind, it is always obvious that not all types of scanners will fulfill their specific needs.

If you have never bought one before, it is easy to assume that all scanners do is just capture images from paper. While this is true to an extent, the way they do the capturing (operating process), the quality in which they do so and amount of human effort required often varies in most cases.

These variations often have more to do with exact type of scanner in question.

In other words, all scanners are never the same or equal as the case may be. Because of this, there is always a possibility of buying the wrong one which will not give you the desired value for your money.

But that is if you are not informed enough as first time buyer.

Sure you won’t like to waste a dollar at all or realize later that you should have gone for model Y instead of model X; even in the same category.

Types of Scanners

Depending on how you look at it, there are many different types of scanners you can find in the marketplace today. And as technology advancement continue to unfold every day, inventive people and companies keep bringing more to the market. If you do a search for ‘’best scanner reviews’’, there is a great chance you’ll get overwhelmed with all the interesting options within your reach.

However, finding the best one to buy will be determined by match between what a particular type of scanner is built for and your current needs.

As you read along through this scanner buying guide, take note of the options available options that fall within the use cases you have in mind. And there will also be brief pointers on the price range. Doing this will definitely help you to find an affordable scanner within your current budget.

Business Card Scanners

Probably, you are not aware of this one before visiting this page today. But if you already know how business card scanners work, you are in line already. However, some may still ask – what is business card scanner?

Well, just as the name suggests, these are small compact designed and portable machines specifically used for scanning business cards. While some may argue about the value of printed business cards in today’s modern business world, people still exchange a lot of these cards during business and professional networking events. The idea here is that putting your cards in a digital format will make them last longer than being in printed formats.

This explains why different brands are manufacturing and selling tens of thousands of these cards in each passing year.

Another interesting benefit is that it helps to organize your contact searchable archive that provides instant access whenever you need them. Now compare this with having a stack of printed cards somewhere in your home, office or even wallet.

Buy on Amazon.com

One of the impressive features of the PenPower business card scanner is recognition of contact detail in 24 different languages. With this tool, you have the ability to import and export contacts via iPhone, iPod, and Microsoft Entourage. During the archiving process, you’ll have the option of making your contacts searchable by locations, keyword or industry.

Moreover, you may choose to add photo to each contact making it even easier to recognize the appropriate contacts when you want to make use of it. Both this one and the DYMO V9 can be found selling on Amazon at a price slightly below $300.

At this point, it is important to note that there are other types of scanners that can scan business and ID cards as well. In most cases, those ones make use of special driver software. Examples in this category include Xerox DocuMate 3220, Ambir DP667 and Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i.

If you do a little more research, there are even more conventional document scanners that can scan business and ID cards too.

From here you’ll begin to understand what I said earlier about a single scanner used for different purposes as opposed to special purpose models.

Portable Photo Scanners

For old and recent life memories, there are many instances where people feel the need to share the experiences captured at a particular moment in time.

Even though mobile smart-phones do a lot of photography these days, printed photo are still useful both in professional and family circles. And when it’s time share them beyond physical or geographic boundaries, portable photo scanners come into play.

As you are reading through this scanner buying guide, one interesting point that is worth noting is that special purpose scanners often outperforms multifunction models.

When it comes to scanning photo, this is very important to understand. And regardless of the fact that it is still possible to find good multifunction scanners that produce high quality outputs, they are usually more expensive.

So if you have photo scanning top on your list of shopping priorities, here are some of the best portable photo scanners under $200 on Amazon.

Canon CanoScan LiDE 220 Image Scanner

Buy on Amazon.com

Without doubt, there is a reason why it called image, not document scanner. However, when it comes to all things electronics, this brand Canon is one to be trusted. In fact, when you mention the name Canon in some circles, photography technology is what comes to most people’s mind. People who have used Canon digital cameras can attest to this.

The key point is that special or even greater attention was given to high quality photo scanning on this one. From our research findings, this model enjoys high rating among all portable photo scanners.

And it is currently selling below $200 price point. When you find multifunction Canon scanners and do your comparison, you’ll confirm what I mean here.

Among many other interesting features, you can scan and share image files on cloud services like Evernote and Dropbox. This product is also known to push quality outputs in PDF. Mac and Windows users will also find this product compatible. Beside photos, this tool enables you to scan work related graphic draws. Moreover, it is possible to get usable black and white text scans from it.

Buy on Amazon.com

Still on the types of scanners and under portable photo scanners, this is one the most affordable models that does the job well. As at the time of this writing, this product could be found selling under $50. So if you are looking for where to buy Avision photo scanner, go check it out on Amazon.

Like some other scanners in its category, it is has the proven capability of doing light document scans. So you don’t have to buy separate products that do these things if you have the need for all of them. The driver software provided in the package is enough to get you up and running in no time.

If you buy directly from Amazon, you can have it delivered to you within 48 hours or less depending on your location. Up to 79% satisfaction level among past buyers was what we found during research.

Flatbed Scanners

What is flatbed scanner?

This is the type of scanner that makes use optical flat surface for scanning objects. In some flatbed scanners, there is always a transparent media adapter that enables the scanning of films and negatives. By taking note of the word ‘some’, it becomes obvious that not all flatbeds come with this feature.

The other interesting feature of high quality flatbeds is the ability to scan more than light documents. With this type you can easily scan books, magazines and cards.

So based on the facts clarified earlier, if you ever want to buy multifunction scanner, think of documents, photos and business cards; it is better to go for the flatbed option.

However, this particular type requires constant human involvement during scans. That means you don’t have to get fully involved in other activities. Hence it takes more time to get what you want as opposed to what is obtainable from others.

Below here are some of the best flatbed scanners that are likely to fall within your budget.

Epson Workforce DS-50000 A3 Flatbed Document Scanner

Buy on Amazon.com

When it comes to portable office electronics like projectors and scanners, Epson is popular brand name that has been in the market for a long time now. Obviously staying longer in business means you must be doing one or few things right every time. And so for this brand, the sales volume and positive rating are just few of the signals we found.

Wherever you see the description of this product, one of the things emphasized prominently is the fact of being a large document scanner. In terms of scanning speed, you can start getting high quality outputs of up 11.7 x 17 inches within five seconds or less. You may choose to scan to Email, SharePoint or Network folders.

Also impressive is the three years warranty you get when you buy Epson workforce ds-50000 a3 flatbed document scanner.

In some sense, this is practical depiction of the confidence that the manufacturer has in this product. Here you have reliable options of connecting through USB 2.0 or wired network.

From the same brand, you can as well find other flatbed scanners like Workforce DS-6500, DS 7500 and DS1660W. Interestingly, most of them can found selling under $500 as at the time of this writing.

Xerox 7600i Flatbed Scanner

Buy on Amazon.com

Here is another old name that has been in the market for a while. Unlike the other competing large format scanner models, the maximum document size supported is 8.5 x 11.7 inches. So you should take that into consideration assuming flatbed model is the exact one that will fulfill your current needs.

Different from this one there are many other great models from the same brand. One good example is the Xerox DocuMate 3640. However, this and many other scanners from Xerox are usually more expensive than others that are selling below $100.

For compatibility confirmation, Xerox 7600i flatbed scanner has been proven to work well with Windows 7 and Vista.

Right here within our website, doing a simple search for the ‘best flatbed scanner reviews’ will reveal even more affordable options to you. Both in monochrome and color operating modes, the scanning speed experienced with this product is very impressive. The software include in the package are the Nuance OmniPage Professional, Nuance Paperport, Visioneer OneTouch and Visioneer Acuity.

Connection in this one is mainly through USB. Recommended duty scan is about 200 scans per day. One year limited warranty is what you get on this one.

Sheetfed Scanners

What is sheetfed scanner?

Looking at physical appearance, sheetfed scanners resembles compact inkjet printers. On the other hand, multifunction printers that have scanners in them also looks pretty much the same. In some cases, when you are looking at both of these from a little distance, it becomes really hard to tell the different. Now, what exactly are sheetfed scanners?

With sheetfed scanner, paper documents are automatically drawn from the feeder, passed across the image processor and delivered on the output tray. From here, the reason why ‘automatic document feeder’ is commonly used to describe it becomes obvious.

For those particular interested in high volume scanning functions, this is the best option to go for.

Invoice, receipts, legal documents and other light paper materials are the common type of objects that this scanner is meant for.

Notably, automatic document feeder is the single most important feature people look for in portable business scanners. And the reason is this; it gives you the benefit of loading papers and concentrating on other important tasks while the scanning work goes on.

One thing you should carefully note before buying this type of scanner is the paper feeding capacity which often varies from one model to the other.

With sheetfed type, you are very much likely to find some multifunction scanners that deliver high quality outputs in terms of documents, photos and business cards. But these rare models are often more expensive than others.

Let’s look at some of the top rated sheetfed scanners in the market today.

Ambir ImageScan Pro 820iX

Buy on Amazon.com

First let me hint you on what you should know and that is; Ambir ImageScan 820iX comes with 50 sheets feeder capacity. So if you need something bigger and better for high volume scanning needs, this is probably not the best for you. Based on the facts I have clarified earlier, this is one of the few sheetfed scanners that can deliver high quality standard document and card scans.

Probably, this is one of the reasons why the price stands a bit above $300. However the light nature of most documents enables the machine to scan up to 20 pages per minute.

Obviously, this speed factor differs with regard to color and monochrome scan outputs. Maximum document size is 8.5 x 14 inches.

While some other models like Epson Workforce ES 500W comes with wireless scanning capabilities, the ImageScan Pro 820iX doesn’t have that capability. Another great product that is fit for wireless scanning needs is the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i which can be found selling under $300 on Amazon.

One other interesting feature that we found to satisfy the needs to past users is the duplex scanning of different card types. So if you have ID cards, business cards, medical, insurance or other type of cards that are double side, this product will help you do the job perfectly.

The product weighs about 4.19 pounds and is found to fit well as desktop scanner which sets it apart from heavy and bulky sheetfed scanners.

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i

Buy on Amazon.com

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300i is another model of sheetfed scanner under $300. For that have found some other products from this brand very satisfactory, you are likely to get the same experience here. Beside the issue of affordability, you’ll find many other interesting features that make it suitable for almost all levels of scanning needs.

Similar to this model is Canon ImageFormula P-150 which has automatic document feed and double sided scanning capability just like many others in the same category.

However, the S1300i is a little bit heavier and doesn’t really fit well on desktop for many users. Confirmed weight on this product is about 3.09 pounds and it is sized around 11.2 x 3.9 x 3 inches. With this product, you can scan really long pages more than what is obtainable from standard Epson and Canon sheetfed scanners.

One obvious downside that we found many people complaining about is the limited feeder capacity which is meant to accept only 10 sheets. For this particular reason, people that have existing need for high volume scanning should consider buying those other models that have 50+ feeder capacity.

The software for this product includes Cadiris 4, ScanSnap Organiser 4.1, Card Miner 4.1 and Abbyy Fine Reader.

Connection is mainly via USB and it needs 9 watts power availability to be in full functioning capacity. The Scanning speed varies from 1ppm to 12ppm depending on the preferred color option. For use, we didn’t find this FujitSu sheedfed scanner very much appealing as there are many other models that offer the same thing even at a lower price.

Conclusion

In this scanner buying guide, we’ve been able to identity four different types of scanners. These four includes business card scanners, photo scanners, flatbed scanners and sheetfed scanners. And if you read through completely, you’ll understand how some features overlaps among the unique types mentioned earlier.

With that increased understanding, you should be able to identify the one that will help fulfill your most important current needs. Also within the best scanner reviews under each category, it is now possible to find some good options that are affordable based on your current budget.

Different from the ones mentioned here, there other types of scanners too.

Some examples that come to mind are bar code scanners and film scanners. On Amazon, you can find interesting models like Esky USB Automatic Barcode Scanner and Nikon CoolScan V LS 50 ED film scanner. And then there is a category of all-in-one-printers that come with scanners in them.

From here you can now follow the appropriate links to Amazon which has all the cool scanners under any category that is best suited for your needs.

Headphones in the modern age are often built for different things.

There’s no longer a one-size-fits-all approach to headphones. Some are built to listen to music on the train, others to exercise. Some might be built for durability, whereas others are designed to give a disco-like experience with pounding base wherever you are. What you intend to do whilst wearing your headphones does, on some level, dictate which you should buy.

You’ll often see poker players wearing headphones. Maybe it’s on television or in person at a casino. Players today often wish to block distractions and focus on their cards and game, and they do this with headphones. That might suit a noise cancelling product, a powerful pair of bass headphones, but that wouldn’t tell the whole poker story. For instance, what if you’re playing at home online? Would you want different headphones if you were playing poker in a casino? You might even have friends around for a game, and you all prefer different music; there’s a headphone for that as well.

With that in mind, we’ve selected a full house of headphones for you to choose from, each with its drawbacks and benefits.

Sony WH1000XM3

The Sony WH1000XM3 are a great example of a poker player’s preferred headphone. Sony is a market leader in active noise cancellation (ANC), and many players seek this feature when playing in a casino. This is evident in a big tournament, when there are often lots of tables in a big open room, with chatter and distraction. That’s not the only strength of these headphones; they also deliver 4 hours of playback for just five minutes of charge and go for 35 hours on a full charge. That’s enough for a mammoth poker session, maybe even a tournament.

Aftershokz Aeroplex

Aftershokz, recently rebranded as Shokz, is the market leader in bone conducting headphones. They don’t sit inside the ear but outside, playing music through the temporal bone. They’ve proven popular with runners and cyclists who must listen for traffic or other hazards. They’re also good for poker players who wish to have music on but also focus on what’s happening around them. Think of a poker night with your rock-loving friends, where you can listen to rap without compromise. They would also work well in a casino for players who want the hustle and bustle and some motivating tunes.

Soundcore Life Q30

The Soundcore Life Q30 headphones won’t break your poker playing budget; they’re a fraction of the cost of similar-level headphones without compromising on features. The battery life is up to 36 hours, and they’re comfortable to wear, with memory foam around the ears. The ANC works well also, meaning you can block out unwanted distractions with little fuss. You might even be able to find the Q20 cheaper, the predecessor to the Q30, which are also a great set of headphones for a poker player.

Nenrent S570

Some poker players might want music, but not the distraction of wearing a clunky set of headphones. For those players, mini earbuds might be best. You might also be working on a super tight budget, and the Nenrent S570 headphones will ensure you’re satisfied on two counts. You can find them for under $20, and you get 6 hours of music time and decent music quality. These are functional headphones; they’re not noise cancelling but will block the ear. They’re for the hobbyist poker player who wants to keep their dollars for chips but still get some music into their poker experience.

If we consider the progress being made in the gaming industry in broad terms, it becomes apparent that the overarching goal is more immersion. Graphics are becoming so overwhelmingly beautiful as to pull players in like never before; increased multiplayer options are turning games into digital communities; and from gamer headphones to X Rocker chairs, there are accessories that even alter gamers’ environments for the sake of deeper immersion.

All of these changes are helping to make all kinds of games more engaging. But they also point to the fact that we’ve likely only just begun to see what’s in store in the VR category. In many respects virtual reality represents the modern pinnacle of immersive gaming, and while we’ve seen some impressive games linked to the technology already, it’s still in a relative state of infancy.

With that in mind we’ve done some thinking about what the best types of games for future VR gear and headsets may ultimately be.

Immersion in Major Series

This is an idea that’s actually based on an emerging trend. Scroll through the latest headlines at Road To VR, and you’ll quickly notice that major series from the wider world of gaming are increasingly getting the virtual treatment. This is a site that collects the latest and most significant updates from around the world of VR, and as of this writing those updates concern material connected to Fallout, DOOM, Pokémon, Star Wars, The Walking Dead, and more. This indicates that the near future of VR will involve a greater focus on immersing gamers in major series with which they’re already familiar.

Open Worlds

Open world games in VR are by no means unheard of at this stage. Titles like Stormland, OrbusVR, and a few more have really used the medium to present huge environments for players to explore freely. Nevertheless, it’s fair to say that full-fledged open world adventures have not been among the early priorities for VR developers. It’s a fair assumption that this is due to the limitations of early VR, and in turn we expect that as the technology continues to improve — and developers continue to grow more ambitious — we’ll see more attempts in this category.

Poker Games

One or two attempts at VR poker emerged quite quickly in the early days of modern VR. Somewhat surprisingly though, the genre hasn’t really taken off. We would expect it to do so in time for two reasons. The first is that poker is a perfect fit for virtual reality — simple enough not to bother developers too much, yet still a game that can be enhanced significantly though virtual immersion. When a company gets it right, gamers will love the opportunity to sit virtually among avatars of other competitors and play poker as if they’re at a high-stakes back room or Las Vegas poker table. The other reason we expect more poker games in VR, meanwhile, is that casino play is slowly being normalized and legalized in parts of the U.S. If poker has another “boom” as a result, it’s a matter of time before it will catch on in VR.

Bingo Games

In a somewhat similar vein to poker, bingo is also a natural fit for VR for a few different reasons. For one thing, the game has enjoyed a massive resurgence through online casino and bingo sites that present it with audio and visual elements that would be easily elevated in VR. For another, this resurgence has seen bingo become a little bit more of a multiplayer activity. Foxy Bingo, which has become one of the preeminent names in the category, goes as far as to highlight gaming “rooms” in which players can game alongside buddies as some of its main features. This adds up to benefits much like those we can see regarding poker. VR bingo would allow players to link up with friends and other gamers in virtual environments that could essentially be enhanced versions of the online bingo rooms that have already renewed the game’s popularity.

Mystery Exploration Games

Of the categories and genres mentioned here, mystery exploration is probably the one that is currently most active in VR. Some of the earliest successes we saw in the medium essentially amounted to point-and-click exploration games enhanced by VR. Nevertheless, we envision developers building on these early successes with significantly larger and more sophisticated games. The Room VR: A Dark Matter may have given us a glimpse of what’s to come in this category. An adaptation of a popular mobile gaming series from Fireproof Games, it emerged as a beautifully rendered mystery exploration that fully immersed players in a detailed and relatively complex world. It’s simply a little deeper than early mystery games, and we expect that it will represent a new foundation for even more impressive follow-ups to come.

There is no doubt that the telephone is one of the main tools that allowed Humanity to forge the modern world as we know it. The telephone is the architect of large corporations and the device by which companies around the globe quickly expanded doing business in an agile manner regardless of the distance that separated them from their customers and suppliers.

At present, despite the century and a half that has passed since its invention, the phone has changed little and nothing, saving aesthetics and options, its operation remains practically the same, that is, we dial a number, and the person to the one that corresponds answers. In this post, we will find everything about the phone, including its history and evolution to this day.

Today we will talk about the history of the telephone and its evolution.

The Invention of the Telephone

Antonio Meucci was an Italian inventor expert in the area of electrodynamics. In 1854,Meucci created his greatest creation, the telethon, later called the telephone. This instrument was able to send acoustic signals at a great distance. The main reason for creating this instrument was Meucci’s wife, who suffered from rheumatism, and could not move. Meucci created the invention to communicate his office, located on the ground floor, with his bedroom, located on the second floor.

But Meucci did not patent his invention for two reasons. The first was that the Italian inventor did not have much money to pay for the patent, and was not sure of the benefits that the phone could give him. The second reason was that Meucci preferred to patent other inventions that he thought were more economically beneficial, passing the phone to the background, some of these inventions included a filter for water purification or a new way of making candles.

6 years later, in 1860, Meucci presented his invention to the public, calling it the telephone, which was still not patented. Unfortunately, no one gave a good offer to Meucci for the invention.

Graham Bell and the invention of the telephone
In 1876, a British inventor named Alexander Graham Bell registered the telephone patent. Meucci did not take long to find out and asked his lawyer to complain to the Patent Office since the Italian inventor had already patented his invention even if it were annual. A little later Meucci discovered, thanks to a friend who worked in Washington, that all the documentation referring to the Meucci patent had been lost. There was no evidence thatthe phone’s patent was given to Meucci before Graham Bell registered it.

The following years became hell for Meucci. Bell’s company was very powerful, and it was discovered that he had bribed both the Patent Office and Meucci’s own lawyer. As destiny would have it, Bell’s power did not reach the courts, and the judge knew that the true author of the invention was without a doubt, Meucci. It all ended with the death of Meucci in 1889, who died without seeing his great talent recognized.

It’s a common fact to describe Graham Bell as the inventor of the telephone, but in recent years the trend is changing, giving that recognition to Meucci. A clear example was that in 2002,where the Official Gazette of the House of Representatives of the United States recognized Meuccias the true inventor of the telephone.

The Evolution of the Phone

To continue with this lesson on the history of the telephone and its evolution, we must talk about the different phases through which the telephone has passed and evolved. Some of these phases include:

The landline, that is, the one based on the communication of lines between non-portable telephones, which are connected thanks to a central system.

Creation of a telephone exchange that allowed interconnections. This was the first network, which was done thanks to the intervention of an operator manually.

Telephone exchanges that allow interconnection, but automatically instead of manual.

Automatic digital switching stations that work by controlling a computer.

New mediums increased the speed of data exchange, such as ISDN or broadband.

The creation of mobile phones, which allows the exchange of voice and data wirelessly.

The Evolution of Landlines

Landline phones were widely used for business as early as 1938 which soon expanded to landlines being a critical part of households. Initially this luxury belonged to only the well to dos. Later it became an integral part of every home. The rotating dial phones were the most used phone sets in the west. With the vintage look they give the impression of both classic and fashionable. Many models have been released and faded but the rotary phone left the strongest impression. The same core design is still being used with its marriage to digitalized and cordless phones giving phones the classic design with contemporary features.

Corded Phones

Corded phones have been used widely and even with the invention of mobile phones, corded phones continue to be used throughout the world. The official phone numbers are usually operated through a corded phone as they are desk bound and suitable. An advantage of corded phones over mobile phones is that they do not require electricity as they are mostly operated through the telecommunications companies. They will continue to work perfectly despite an extended power outage. A mobile phone can simply give a general idea of the location in the case of an emergency situation, while a corded phone can pinpoint the exact location.

PBX Phones

Offices and companies still rely on Private Branch Exchange (PBX) phones which are the most widely used tool in intra office communication. It is also called the Business Telephone System as the enterprise uses it for calls between the employees of the company. Considering the crucially private information being shared among the organization, these types of phones are the preferred choice of almost all the offices and companies of the outside world.

The World’s First Cell Phone

The idea of manufacturing a cell phone is not as new as people think since, in 1947 the engineer DH Ring had already proposed some sketches to Bell Laboratories. However, they lacked the necessary technology to develop them.

In the 1960s, all major telecommunications companies handled the same concept and competed to be the first to make it effective. Finally, the first company to design a cell phone was Bell Laboratories, whose patent was approved in 1972.

However, the first cell phone prototype was demonstrated in 1973 by Motorola. The phone was a DynaTAC 8000X model, and the call was made precisely to its largest competitor in the area, Joel Engel, of AT&T Bell Laboratories.

The DynaTAC 8000X entered the market in 1984. It weighed about 1 kilogram and measured 33 x 4.4 x 8.9 centimeters. Its battery allowed just one hour of communication or an eight-hour wait on the network.

The First Generation or 1G

In the 1980s, Ameritech Mobile Communications, LLC, the first company to provide cell phone services, appeared on the scene. The idea was to use analog radio channels (frequencies around 450 MHz) with modulated frequency (FM). Some of the first phones of this type were from the Ericsson company, NMT 450 brand.

This generation of cell phones is considered to have the most significant impact in areas of communication and technology. In 1986 Ericsson modernized its equipment, launching the NMT 900, and companies such as AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone System) and TACS (Total Access Communication System) started operating in the United States and other first-world countries.

Second Generation or 2G

The massification of the mobile phone began in the 1990s.

The second generation of cell phones was born in the 1990s. It used GSM systems (Global System for Mobile Communications, a European standard) and frequencies between 900 and 1800 MHz, which represented the step towards the digitalization of cellular communications. This was a huge step since people were now able to witness Improved voice quality and security levels firsthand.

On the other hand, terminal manufacturing became more straightforward and cheaper. Different models of line management were used, many like Multiple Time Division Access (TDMA) and Multiple Code Division Access (CDMA), which allowed the migration from analog to digital without having to make substantial investments instead (wiring, towers, antennas, etc.)

This new technology also allowed roaming and the commercialization of units at much more competitive prices.

Generation 2.5

In a short time, EMS and MMS technologies were incorporated into the second generation of cellphones thus allowing text messaging and multimedia messaging on existing cell phones. In many cases, the functionality was limited to receiving them, but units capable of issuing them too soon appeared.

Since this type of new technologies required higher transmission speeds, the networks were updated to GPRS (General Packet Radio Service), which allowed speeds of up to 120 kb / s, and EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution), which It carried up to 384 kb / s.

Third Generation or 3G

The first smartphones already worked like small computers.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the third generation responded to the need for cell phones with Internet connectivity, video conferences, television, and file downloads, that is, small computers.

The first Smartphones or smartphones belong to this generation and are responsible for their popularization. For this, a new system was implemented: UTSM (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) with CDMA technology, capable of reaching transmission speeds of 7.2 Mb / s in optimal conditions.

Fourth-Generation or 4G

This is the generation of “High-end” Smartphones or higher capacities, thanks to its Internet connection at high speeds (bandwidth) and reception of High Definition (HD) videos. It is the technology currently used in advanced companies and is considered to be the technological evolution of mobile telephony.

5th Generation or 5G

The fifth generation of cell phones is currently in development (2019). Powerful companies like the Chinese Huawei and the Russian Megafon have been testing since 2014 to manufacture a new technological generation.

As revealed by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 2017, it is estimated that it will reach speeds of up to 20 Gb / s of discharge and 10 GB/s of load, optimizing technology with new standards that are aspired to be available by 2020.

The Smartphones Revolution

The variety of its functions requires the use of large screens.

Smartphones were the biggest change in the history of cell phones. On the one hand, the functionality changed, incorporating many aspects of computers. On the other hand, the design changed: the phones promised to be smaller and more discreet every time, but the arrival of Smartphones introduced the need for large screens.

Faced with the need to display information on the screens, the keyboards were suppressed, which were replaced by tactile instructions within the screen, known as the touch-screen technology.

In its order, the best-selling cell phones in history are the Nokia 1100, with 250 million; the iPhone 6, with 220 million; the Nokia 3210 with 112 million; the Motorola V3 with 130 million; and the Samsung SIII with about 130 million too.

The Future is Infinite

If these are the smartphones of today, what can we expect from the phones of the future?

There is information that the smartphones may be equipped with mind control –not even the touch of the fingertip would be needed to control anything and everything on and from the mobile. Another feature which has already started to be incorporated is the flexibility. Mobile phones are being made stretchable and foldable so they can fit in like a paper. With this addition, there are models constantly being tested to make them unbreakable and scratch-less.Water, fire and pressure resistance are some of the many qualities the phones of the future will possess.

Everything that a person may need is in their palms – now it is up to them if they know how to use it best.
